The Ibibio currently living in Nigeria are about two million in number. They live between the Delta and Cross River. They honor their ancestors in their ceremonies.
Ibibio call their principal mask making society ‘Ekpo’, though, but the same word also means ancestor. Dances performed during Ekpo ceremonies are to commemorate deceased ancestors.
